The Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Kanunu, Law No. 6698) entered into force in 2016 and is largely modelled on the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC, with significant 2024 amendments aligning cross-border transfer rules closer to GDPR Chapter V. The Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) supervises compliance, maintains the Data Controllers' Registry (VERBİS), and may impose administrative fines.
